Fad Diets: Can We Lose Weight With Them?

What do you first think of when you say “weight loss”? I bet nine out of ten people think of dieting. Diets have been a challenge to may, since many years ago, but not everybody recorded the same success with getting rid of their extra pounds by using such nutritional diets which restricted many of the nutrients which our body needs to function.

Diets which were not endorsed by scientific experiments or proofs were given the generic name of “fad diets“, and they still are controversial, as some people claim excellent results, while others are subject to the yo-yo effect which harms the health so much.

Some of these diets are very old. For example, the Hollywood diet, which appeared in 1930, is still known today under the name of Grapefruit Diet and it has been used on a large scale in Chicago weight loss groups and even in some weight loss camps for adults and teens.

How comes a fad diet can be so popular over so many years? It might be working for many people, so it may belong to those weight loss tips that work. Yes, it is working, but the principle which initially created it was never proven: the existence of that fat-burning compound in the grapefruit juice. Fact is that this diet supposes eating less calories a day than the normal number, therefore leading to a loss of weight. If you need 1500 calories to keep your body functioning, and you eat only 900, the body would start burning the fat reserves, in order to get the extra calories supply needed. I see that natural weight loss is the way to go for a slim body and a healthy life. And if you want to track your progress, the body mass index is your true friend.
